Indoor air quality: covid, fine particles, pollution, allergens, odors… what’s going on in your offices?
Indoor air: pollutants in offices
According to the WHO (World Health Organization), indoor air is up to 8 times more polluted than outdoor air. Fine particles, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon dioxide (CO2), allergens (pollen allergies, dust mites, molds), pathogens, odors, viruses and bacteria… So many pollutants emitted by human activity, equipment or the materials used in your premises.
” The impacts on employees are numerous: increased sick leave, reduced productivity and concentration, eye irritation… Fortunately, solutions exist to mitigate these risks, as is the case with professional-grade air purifiers adapted to the treatment of the smallest particles. As well as being effective, some equipment also saves energy for companies”.
says Thibaut Samsel, OberA’s Technical Manager. In fact, opting for an air purifier prevents ventilation and heat loss in offices by drawing in and purifying stale air. Clean air circulates to maintain comfortable conditions for employees, while preventing heat energy leakage.
Office air purifiers: the effectiveness of HEPA filters
HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air Filter) filters have been developed to meet the requirements of European standard EN 1822. These include the filter’s ability to capture the smallest particles, its loss rate over a defined area and its overall efficiency.
This standard determines the effectiveness of air purifiers in their ability to filterfine particles such as viruses and bacteria. HEPA filters are classified as follows:
- High-precision HEPA H13 filter: 99.95% filtration efficiency of fine particles;
- High-precision HEPA H14 filter: 99.995% filtration efficiency.
While it’s impossible to guarantee 100% destruction of viruses and bacteria, these devices considerably reduce the risk of contamination and propagation in closed environments.
