To prevent your host from becoming a host for COVID-19.<\/h2>\n\n

Viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 can survive for several hours in the air and retain their infectious effects, as shown by various scientific studies. The same is true of other pathogens, such as influenza. As the number of people in a room increases, so does the risk of contaminating the air with pathogens. All it takes is one infected person, who may be asymptomatic and therefore completely unaware of his or her infection, and the restaurant can quickly become a cluster. <\/p>\n\n

Distancing, yes, but this measure alone is not enough against viruses.<\/h3>\n\n

Aerosols (micro-droplets) carry the virus that clings to them. Aerosols are so small and light that they float freely in the air! Consequently, distancing people is not enough to protect them from COVID-19. In fact, it’s impossible to prevent the spread of viruses, as aerosols (virus carriers) move through the entire volume as the air moves, and can last up to several hours in the ambient air of your room. That’s why it’s important to constantly ventilate your room and\/or treat the air with a HEPA-filtered air purifier, to reduce the concentration (load) of airborne pathogens and thus reduce the likelihood of contamination. <\/p>\n\n

Doesn’t the air purifier contribute to the spread of the virus in my restaurant?<\/h3>\n\n

The air purifier is involved in the movement of air in the room, and as such it might be thought to contribute to the spread of infectious agents. However, studies have shown that the spread of infectious agents is much lower with an air purifier<\/a> than without, because the air moved is treated and freed of viruses. What’s more, the overall load of viruses in the room is much lower, so the probability of contact is much lower. <\/p>\n\n

The combined use of masks and social distancing is an important first approach to reducing the risk of direct infection via saliva and sputum with the SARS CoV-2 virus. However, this measure alone does not protect against a far greater risk of infection – clouds of aerosols floating freely in the ambient air! <\/p>\n\n

After all, airborne viruses have no distance rules; when we speak, we emit not only large droplets visible as “viral spray”, but also much larger quantities of tiny aerosol particles into the air, which are invisible to the naked eye.<\/p>\n\n

Aerosol clouds spread like invisible clouds of smoke<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

As we saw earlier, the aerosol cloud made up of micro-droplets moves without barriers throughout the restaurant. As a result, aerosols can easily find their way into the respiratory tract and\/or eyes of other people in the room. <\/p>\n\n

Only a synchronized solution of spray protection by mask and effective continuous ventilation using aeration and air purification reduces the risk of infection reliably and sustainably. So don’t just set up physical barriers with masks and partitions to protect your employees and guests. Aerosols in the ambient air do not respect distance rules – they are the real source of danger as potential virus carriers! The ultimate goal is therefore to prevent the spread of these airborne aerosols as far as possible. <\/p>\n\n

Air purifiers notwithstanding: you still need to ventilate!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Some organizations choose to equip themselves with CO2 sensors to continuously measure CO2 concentration and issue a warning when the room needs ventilation and when the threshold is exceeded. In addition to air purification, we also recommend opening the room’s windows when CO2 levels exceed 1000 ppm. The use of room air purifiers is not mandatory, but we do recommend it to avoid excessive CO2 levels in the ambient air, thus reducing aerosol concentrations. <\/p>\n\n

The CO2 sensor will tell you when to ventilate.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Some restaurants have requested the installation of carbon dioxide measurement sensors to constantly monitor air quality. These carbon dioxide sensors are a good tool for making the air quality in the room visible: “The carbon dioxide sensor will indicate when the limit has been reached and when the windows should be opened.” Many studies recommend the use of CO2 sensors indoors<\/a>. When indoor ventilation is required, these measuring instruments sound the alarm. <\/p>\n\n
