Hexavalent chromium is also known by its synonyms : <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>chromium trioxide ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>chromic anhydride ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>chromium VI oxide ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>chromium anhydride ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>chromic trioxide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The <strong>main substances containing hexavalent chromium<\/strong> or chromium VI are as 8-hour and short-term occupational limit value<\/h2>\n\n<p>Hexavalent chromium and its compounds are chemical substances <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/obera.fr\/conseils\/substances-cmr-risque-exposition-au-travail-quelle-reglementation-prevention\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/obera.fr\/conseils\/substances-cmr-risque-exposition-au-travail-quelle-reglementation-prevention\/\">chemical substances classified as CMR<\/a><\/strong> (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction): C1A, M1B, R2.<\/p>\n\n<p>Decree 2020-1546 of December 9, 2020 sets binding occupational exposure limit values<a href=\"https:\/\/obera.fr\/en\/our-tips\/valeur-limite-exposition-professionnelle-ou-vlep\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1999\">(OELVs<\/a>) for hexavalent chromium and its compounds.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>8-hour occupational limit value<\/strong> (VLEP-8h) = 0.001 mg\/m\u00b3 <strong>Short-term occupational limit value<\/strong> (VLCT) = 0.005 mg\/m\u00b3<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p><strong>Binding <\/strong>and <strong>indicative<\/strong> <strong>TLVs <\/strong>introduce a reference value when <strong>assessing workers&#8217; exposure to pollutants in the workplace<\/strong>. Measurements of pollutant concentration levels in workplace air help determine which risk prevention measures to implement. <\/p>\n\n<p>Also read: What are the risks of <a href=\"https:\/\/obera.fr\/en\/our-tips\/vlep-quels-risques-cas-de-non-respect-reglementation\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1816\">not complying with VLEP<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>The concentration of chemical agents in the atmosphere of workplaces is expressed in :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>mg\/m\u00b3 for liquid and solid aerosols ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ppm (parts per million) or ml\/m\u00b3 for gases and\/or vapors ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fibers\/cm\u00b3 for fibers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>The occupational exposure limit value is measured on :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an 8-hour reference period for 8-hour VLEP ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a maximum duration of 15 min for short-term TLVs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"sous-quelles-formes-retrouve-t-on-le-chrome-vi-ou-le-chrome-hexavalent-et-comment-le-traiter\">What forms does chromium VI or hexavalent chromium come in, and how can it be treated?<\/h2>\n\n<p>Chromium 6 is generally found in the form of dust or contained in dust. This pollutant is generated during machining, shaping or reworking operations on materials containing or coated with chromium VI. <\/p>\n\n<p>Hexavalent chromium in dust form is treated on particulate filters of class H and\/or HEPA H13 or H14 minimum.
