Young tailors reject dusty workshops: a generational shift?

Traditionally associated with manual professions sometimes considered austere, tailoring and sewing workshops have long held an image stuck in the past: dust, dim light, long hours of repetitive work. But this image is changing. A new generation of young, passionate, ambitious and connected tailors is demanding modern, creative and rewarding working conditions.

A new generation shaking things up

Gone are the days of dark, aging workshops.Young talents want bright, ergonomic spaces designed for creation, but also for exchange and learning. They don’t just want to “do”, they want to “understand”, “innovate” and “express themselves”.

This change not only affects the working environment, but also the way in which the profession is perceived. For many young people, being a tailor no longer just means reproducing ancestral know-how, but also evolving it, adapting it to contemporary requirements – whether in terms of sustainability, style or technology.

OberA, a partner for up-and-coming generations

At OberA, we’ve long understood the importance of this transformation. That’s why we’re actively involved with young craftsmen and women, helping them to develop their skills, promoting their creativity and supporting their ambitions.

For several years now, we have been proud to be a partner of WorldSkills, both nationally and internationally. This commitment reflects our desire to support excellence, transmission and innovation in the craft trades, particularly in textiles and clothing.

WorldSkills is more than just a competition: it’s a global showcase for young people’s skills, a catalyst for passion, and a springboard to professional recognition. By accompanying these young people every step of the way – from preparation to international competition – OberA is highlighting the new faces of the tailoring trade, those who are inventing tomorrow’s workshop today.

Towards a hand-sewn future

This generational shift is a tremendous opportunity to restore the nobility of the tailoring profession. Provided, of course, that we accompany this transition, support the desire to learn differently, and build bridges between tradition and modernity.

At OberA, we believe in this new generation. And we’re proud to be part of their journey.
