Sommaire
Why use an air cooler in industry?
Many industrial processes incorporate at least one heat-generating device (furnace, oven, injection press, etc.). Heat affects the indoor air quality of industrial buildings, the productivity of professionals, product quality, and so on. And any excessive temperature in a workshop leads to operator discomfort and product degradation. So it pays tolower the temperature with a cooling system: electric air conditioner or industrial air cooler.
How does an industrial air cooler work?
The industrial air cooler (or adiabatic cooler) is an air-conditioning unit based on the evaporation of water. It produces the same sensation of freshness that can be felt close to a body of water.
An evaporative cooler
The adiabatic cooler fan draws warm air through a water-saturated humidifier. On contact with the warm air, the water evaporates. The water has drawn its evaporation energy from the thermal energy in the air. This cools the air, reducing its temperature by 10 to 20°C. The fan then blows the cooled air into the workshop.
Humidifier saturation comes from the continuous, regulated delivery of water from the tank via an electric pump. The water tank can be filled manually or automatically by connecting the cooler to a water supply.
An adiabatic cooling system
The air-water system integrating the unit and its environment conserves energy. This is adiabatic cooling. The air supplies the water with its energy, which is returned to it in the form of humidity. Humidity variation is maintained at around 7% by good ventilation. This is achieved by varying unit speeds and building openings. What’s more, the warmer and drier the incoming air, the more efficient the cooler.
What are the advantages of an adiabatic air cooler?
The cooling principle of an adiabatic cooler is natural. This offers many advantages over a conventional air-conditioning system.
A mobile, economical and environmentally-friendly cooling unit
The unit cools the air by evaporating water, rather than by compressing a refrigerant gas as with electric air conditioners. This offers several advantages:
- Reduced electrical energy consumption : industrial coolers consume up to 10 times less electrical energy than conventional air conditioners.
- Greater cooling efficiency: the coefficient of performance of an evaporative cooler is 5 times higher than that of an air conditioner.
- Greater respect for the environment: the evaporative cooler uses no toxic refrigerants and produces no greenhouse gases.
- Quick set-up time: the mobile evaporative cooler, with its integrated castors, can be easily moved to meet urgent cooling requirements. Installation is as simple as plugging it into the mains and filling the reservoir.
- Reduced maintenance: since its air-conditioning function is based on the evaporation of water, the industrial air cooler uses no refrigerant gas. This eliminates the need to call in a certified professional for maintenance, as is the case with air conditioners. Maintenance is limited to periodic cleaning of the tank and filter, and annual cleaning of the humidifier and fan.
- Low cost of air conditioning: purchase, installation and running costs are all lower than those of an air conditioner.
A pleasant, healthy working environment
The adiabatic air cooler lowers the temperature and increases the relative humidity in your workshop by 5-10%. It produces pleasant cooling and humidity compatible with human physiology.
Our industrial coolers are equipped with a filter to trap dust and a UV lamp to prevent microbial growth in the cooling water. The result is perfectly clean air.
What’s more, the evaporative cooler is a relatively quiet appliance, with a noise level of 66 dB, lower than that of a vacuum cleaner (76 dB).
How to choose an industrial air cooler?
The choice of an industrial air cooler depends on your cooling requirements and the size of your workshop. The higher the temperature and the larger the surface area, the greater the air flow required. As experts in industrial air treatment, OBERA offers you a range of adiabatic coolers of increasing power:
| Product | Surface area (m²) | Fuel tank capacity (liters) | Flow rate (m3/h) |
|---|---|---|---|
| IC 12 | 80 à 150 | 70 | 12000 |
| IC 22 | 150 à 250 | 130 | 22000 |
| IC 30 | 200 à 400 | 200 | 30000 |
All our industrial air coolers are equipped with a control panel to regulate temperature and water flow.
