Recently, we had the opportunity to diagnose a critical situation at one of our customers, where rubber dust represented a serious safety hazard. This article presents the problems we identified and the effective solution we implemented.
Sommaire
Rubber dust issues
Explosion hazards
Rubber dust, particularly when very fine, can be explosive. In our customer’s workshop, this risk was accentuated by frequent cutting operations.
Sparks and overheating
When cutting armored hoses, the metal framework generated sparks. In addition, the cutting process generates heat, releasing unpleasant odours that affect workers’ comfort and health.
Use of multiple machines
Our customer used from 2 to 5 machines simultaneously, making it essential to adjust the suction rate to ensure effective dust collection.
Solution implemented
Dustomat Dry ATEX dust collector
To solve these problems, we recommended the installation of a Dustomat Dry ATEX dust collector. This system, adapted to our customer’s specific requirements, has several key features:
- Water cyclone pre-separator: Upstream, a water cyclone pre-separator separates incandescent particles, reducing the risk of explosion.
- Additional activated carbon filtration: The dust collector features an additional activated carbon filtration stage to treat odors and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) generated by rubber heating.
- Vacuum measurement and flow variation: This system includes a vacuum measurement device that adjusts the suction flow to the specific needs of the machines in operation.

Committed to improving workplace safety
This real-life case study from our customer illustrates the importance of a proactive approach to safety when handling rubber dust. By installing the Dustomat Dry ATEX dust collector, we were able to minimize the risk of explosion and ensure a healthier working environment.Investing in the right solutions is essential to protect workers and ensure effective management of the risks associated with explosive dusts. We are proud to have contributed to improving safety on our customer’s shop floor.
