Industrial Air Coolers: A Simple, Robust, and Economical Solution to Construction Industry Challenges

Heat on construction sites poses a real problem for worker comfort and safety. It is imperative to regularly cool the ambient air: the Labor Code (Art. R4225-2) thus requires providing at least 3 L of fresh water per worker per day and recommends suitable ventilation systems.

Industrial evaporative air coolers, such as those in the IC range developed by OberA, provide a mobile, ecological, and efficient solution, perfectly suited for construction site environments.

This natural technology effectively lowers the temperature without using refrigerant gases or chemical fluids. It simultaneously purifies the air thanks to an integrated filter medium, which improves air quality on site.

In just a few minutes, our coolers diffuse fresh, humid air into the workspace, helping to prevent heatstroke and dehydration.

Construction Cooling

Why Cool Your Construction Site?

Working outdoors or under light shelter can quickly expose workers to temperatures above 30 °C, with serious risks (fatigue, sunstroke, accidents). Beyond the obligation to provide fresh water and regular breaks, it is advisable to implement effective cooling methods.

Conventional fans are often insufficient (they circulate hot air without cooling it). In contrast, OberA’s adiabatic cooling provides a real reduction in perceived temperature: the blown air is cooler, and a pleasant humidity level is maintained, contributing to team well-being. This approach limits heat-related risks (discomfort, accidents) and helps meet health recommendations for the construction industry.

These temperature increases heighten health risks (heatstroke, fatigue, decreased concentration) and impact productivity.

Adiabatic Cooling: Principle and Advantages

Adiabatic technology involves passing hot air over a humidified medium: the evaporation of water absorbs heat, and the air exits cooled. This process offers numerous advantages:

  • Zero Chemical Refrigerant: No refrigerant gases or chemical products are used. The system relies solely on water, a 100% natural principle.
  • Low Energy Consumption: These devices consume very little electricity (without a compressor), which translates into enormous energy savings. In practice, we are talking about approximately 80% energy savings compared to conventional air conditioning.
  • Optimized Water Usage: Water consumption (8–30 L/h depending on the model) is calibrated according to the outdoor temperature. It is even possible to use rainwater for even greater eco-responsibility.
  • Simple Installation: Our coolers are mobile and “plug & play.” Simply plug them into a 230 V outlet and move them with the integrated wheels to cool any space. No complex installation or pipe network.
  • Optimal Comfort: Unlike air conditioning, adiabatic cooling does not dry out the air. On the contrary, ambient humidity remains stabilized, which is beneficial for workers’ health. The air blown out is often around 23–25 °C, even in very hot outdoor conditions.

Safe Use: Without mist production, there is no risk of legionellosis (no projected micro-droplets). The installation thus complies with all safety standards without bacterial entrainment.

To put it simply: adiabatic cooling simultaneously purifies and cools the air, while being ecological and economical. The hotter it is outside, the more effective the system.

IC Range: Three Models for All Construction Sites

IC 12

ic 12

Airflow of 12,000 m³/h (surface up to 150 m²). 70 L tank (consumption 8–10 L/h), weight 43 kg. Advantages: compact, mobile, very quiet – easy to move from one building to another.

IC 22

ic 22

Airflow of 22,000 m³/h (up to 250 m²). 130 L tank (10–15 L/h), weight 50 kg. Key features: UV water sterilization, ultra-quiet operation. This model is very economical: it achieves up to 80% energy savings compared to conventional air conditioning, making it ideal for medium to large construction sites.

IC 30

ic 30

Airflow of 30,000 m³/h (approximately 400 m²). 280 L tank (15–30 L/h), weight 110 kg. Designed for very large industrial spaces or open construction sites. Very robust and reliable, it can operate continuously even in the most extreme conditions.

The main characteristics are summarized in the table below:

ModelFlow (m³/h)Surface treatedTank (L)ConsumptionMain Advantages
IC 1212,000up to 150 m²708–10 L/hCompact, mobile, quiet
IC 2222,000up to 250 m²13010–15 L/hUV sterilizer, very quiet, -80% energy**
IC 3030,000up to 400 m²28015–30 L/hRobust, powerful, designed for large spaces

Each model features simple controls (panel + remote control) to manage speed and perceived temperature. Thanks to the integrated wheels, the airflow can be directed exactly where cooling is needed. The IC 30, for example, delivers very powerful air circulation over several tens of meters, creating a comfort zone in the heart of a large construction site (hall, semi-open warehouse, industrial site, etc.).
