A guide to the effectiveness of air purifiers against viruses, COVID-19, coronaviruses and bacteria

The COVID-19 virus appeared in France at the end of 2019 and doesn’t seem ready to disappear. In fact, SARS-CoV-2 variants such as Omicron are appearing. In response to the spread of this virus, SARS-CoV-2, it is imperative to break transmission chains at all costs. Everyone’s health is at stake, and even some people’s lives, in extreme cases. The risk of infection at work, at school, in public buildings and generally in all places open to the public is considerable.

Our guide to OBERA solutions for air control and purification. Ensure the health safety of your premises, by offering purified air to your customers and employees, with an air purifier effective against COVID-19.

How to purify the air in business premises and public areas of viruses and bacteria?

Effective air exchange reduces the concentration of aerosols in rooms. Experts recommend regular, vigorous ventilation to reduce the risk of transmitting viruses and bacteria inside a room.

However, not all indoor spaces are adequately ventilated. This is true of some offices, conference rooms, classrooms, shops, workshops and warehouses.

OBERA air purifiers are the ideal indoor air treatment solution for enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces.

The use of a COVID-19 air purifier is nevertheless very useful in rooms with windows. Simply opening windows provides only partial ventilation. What’s more, in winter, this causes a rapid drop in room temperature.

Only forced ventilation with a COVID-19 air purifier guarantees effective decontamination of ambient air. The air thus filtered is purified of most viruses and bacteria.

Can a CO2 sensor be used to measure CO2 levels to prevent transmission of COVID-19?

A high level of CO2 (carbon dioxide) in the ambient air indicates a high risk of transmitting viruses and bacteria. We spit out CO2 when we breathe, and the air expelled by our lungs is laden with aerosols. These aerosols can be infected by viruses and bacteria in our respiratory tract. Since they remain suspended in the ambient air, the risk of transmission of COVID-19 is considerable.

Measuring CO2 levels in ambient air is a good indicator of the amount of air consumed, and therefore potentially contaminated. A well-placed CO2 sensor will indicate the level of risk of transmission of pathogens through breathing. It is therefore important for your health to monitor the level of CO2 inside a room.

What can we learn from the study of air in the fight against COVID-19 transmission?

Today, it is impossible to easily and accurately measure the level of COVID-19 in the air. Measuring CO2 levels, on the other hand, indicates the percentage of exhaled air in the ambient air. A CO2 concentration of 1,200 ppm (parts per million) indicates that almost 2% of the air in the room has been exhaled. The higher the CO2 level in a room, the more air has been “breathed in”, potentially contaminated with viruses and bacteria.

What’s more, a Franco-Italian scientific team has identified a strong affinity between SARS-CoV-2 and pollution particles. The COVID virus finds a perfect host in these particles. They transport it and protect it from UV rays, prolonging its life. The link is therefore made between poor air quality and transmission of COVID-19.

Our air purifiers are 99.5% effective against COVID-19. Compare before you buy!

OBERA air purifiers effectively treat the air and capture viruses and bacteria. They decontaminate rooms from 10 to 1000 m² using high-efficiency HEPA filters. One air purifier treats the recommended equivalent of 4 to 6 room air changes per hour.

COVID-19 air purifiers treat stale air with a high-efficiency HEPA filter, certified to EN 1822 (EPA E11 to HEPA 14 Medical depending on configuration). The mobile air purifier effectively filters airborne aerosol viruses down to 99.995%.

Renewing the indoor air 5 times an hour, as recommended by the HCSP (Haut Conseil de la Santé Publique), guarantees a healthy room. Your premises can be used despite the circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and its variants. Choose the COVID-19 air purifier model with performance levels to match the area to be treated:

The units are easily installed in your premises, without the need for heavy installation or piping. As soon as you put your COVID-19 air purifier into service, you’ll breathe quality air, filtered and purified of viruses and bacteria.

Operating principle of an OBERA COVID-19 air purifier system

Air purifiers are designed to filter the ambient air. Suspended particles and aerosols, viruses and bacteria, float in the air for long hours. They eventually agglomerate, fall to the floor or settle on furniture. Air purifiers capture the polluted air above them. The aspirated air is then filtered, depending on the appliance, using high-efficiency particle filters. Once decontaminated, the air is returned to the room, free of particles that may carry viruses or bacteria. As a result, your room benefits from continuous air renewal.

The H14 VIRBOX air purifier, OBERA’s ultimate weapon against coronavirus

Virbox is a COVID-19 air purifier specially designed to treat viruses. In terms of performance, it filters at least 99.995% of viruses and bacteria from ambient air. It moves easily from room to room, including through doorways. Multifunctional, it can also be used as a communication medium.

The ventilation concept with or without purifier

By using an OBERA purifier, aerosols can be captured and filtered much closer to where they are produced. To achieve this, the top of the device sucks up aerosols at the exact height at which people emit them.

How can we ensure coronavirus safety in nurseries, kindergartens, schools and secondary schools?

Children and teenagers are more resistant to COVID-19, but they are a vector of transmission. Every day, children and teenagers come into contact with dozens of their peers before heading home. There are real difficulties in enforcing barrier measures in the school environment, particularly among the youngest children. When contamination occurs at school, it represents a risk of transmission to the child’s parents, siblings and grandparents. The quality of the air thus purified will preserve the health of the pupils.

Installing COVID-19 air purifiers in a classroom or refectory offers a real opportunity to break the transmission chains. In essence, these are confined spaces where ventilation is not always sufficient. The level of SARS-CoV-2 concentration in the air can therefore be significant. A COVID-19 air purifier provides effective filtration of ambient air.

Coronovirus and CHR: How to treat COVID-19 in cafés, hotels and restaurants?

The reopening of cafés and restaurants in France has delighted many. Yet these are high-risk areas for aerosol transmission of the coronavirus. Ventilation is not easy, and seated customers do not wear masks. As these are essentially convivial places, discussions are lively and physical distancing is ineffective. By coughing or simply talking, a person carrying the SARS-Cov-2 virus projects droplets of saliva. These contaminated aerosols float freely in the ambient air of the room for long hours.

Only a COVID-19 air purifier in the room enables effective decontamination, drastically reducing the level of coronavirus in the ambient air. Installing a CO2 sensor lets you know when to change the air. By combining high-performance filtration, natural ventilation and distancing, you greatly minimize the risk of transmitting viruses and bacteria. Protect the health of your customers and staff with a COVID-19 air purifier.
