Which professional air purifier is right for very large surfaces?

In a very large enclosed space, such as an industrial building, warehouse, or sports hall, the continuous inhalation of dangerous particles poses a constant threat to our health. Without us realizing it, it can cause ocular, dermatological, or respiratory pathologies.

To properly purify the air, it is therefore essential to choose the correct air purifier model for a large area. Here are some explanations.

Air treatment for large spaces

Various solutions are available to clean up large volumes of pollution. If the source of the pollution is localized, it is advisable to extract it at source using a localized capture system or a mobile capture and filtration device.

Nevertheless, polluting particles sometimes disseminate in the air, making it impossible to treat them at the source. It is then advisable to adopt a specific ambient air purifier for large volumes.

Good to know: One might think that purifying a large volume would increase the already significant energy bill for a spacious building. However, this is not the case. A professional air purifier utilizes the building’s temperature gradient. It vertically draws slightly warmer air from the top of the unit and horizontally returns it into the room. This slightly warmer air naturally rises. An air movement is thus created. This allows for air treatment using 10 times less energy than an air handling unit and provides thermal comfort, without increasing the thermostat in a warehouse or any type of industrial workshop. The air purifier acts as a destratifier.

Choosing the right large-area air purifier

The entry point of the type of pollutant is, as we have seen, an essential factor to consider. There are also other parameters to consider in order to find the best air purifier. We provide the main ones below.

Pollution type and concentration

To achieve effective air purification, it is crucial to precisely identify the type of pollutant. Indeed, depending on the type (gaseous or particulate) and the size of the particles, the filtration model to be used and its filtration fineness differ. Note that there are two possible systems:

  • Particulate filters
    • Saturation filter
      • coarse filters (G3, G4, ISO Coarse)
      • fine filter (ISO PM10, ISO PM2.5, ISO PM1, etc.)
      • High-efficiency EPA and HEPA filters
    • The regenerative filter.
  • Molecular filters adapted to gas treatment (generally composed of activated carbon)

The finer the particles, the higher the filtration efficiency of your high-volume air purifier.

Conversely, equipping a purifier with high-efficiency (HEPA) filtration when it is not necessary for the particles to be treated is a mistake. Indeed, the finer a filter’s filtration, the more expensive it is, the more energy it consumes, and the more it reduces flow rate for the same filter surface.

The space/pollutant ratio

Before choosing your sanitation method, you need to know the occupational exposure limit values. (OEL*). They are inherent to the activity carried out in the room.

Effective treatment must necessarily take into account the number of polluting particles present in a large volume. Accordingly, it is important to adjust the flow rate of the professional air purifier.

Depending on your surface area, sanitation can be carried out up to 20 times an hour to ensure optimal treatment.

The different ranges of large-volume air purifiers

Two ranges of large-area air purifiers can treat all types of locations with a surface area between 200 m² and 400 m². These are the ePUR and VIRBOX ranges.

For a surface area of between 60 m² and 400 m²

ePUR models benefit from two very high-performance filters. The first removes bacteria and viruses from the ambient air. The second, located at the base of the device, returns clean air into the room:

  • If the ePUR05 is a professional air purifier that destroys all viruses in a space of up to 60 m²;
  • ItsePUR 30 counterpart can sanitize a room of up to 400 m².

In the Virbox range, you will also find anti-COVID purifiers. The Virbox air purifier is suitable for variable volumes from 200m² to 400m².

For surfaces up to 700 m²

The ePUR 100 is a perfect air purifier for a large industrial building up to 700 m2. It effectively disinfects the air of all viral or bacterial particles. It features an unbeatable filtration system to ensure effective purification.
